Register of Deeds

What We Do:

  • Record Property Documents- Deeds, mortgages, plats, easements, releases, court decrees, and other land records.
  • Preserve Records – Safeguard original documents in secure storage; maintain digital archives for public access.
  • Certify & Index- Assign official instrument numbers, index documents for easy search, and provide certified copies.
  • Collect Fees & Taxes – Recordings: $10 for the first page, $6 for each additional page. Certified copies : $1.50/ page. Documentary stamp tax: $2.25 per $1,000 of property value ( when applicable).
  • Assist the Public – Help residents, attorneys, title companies, and researchers locate and review records.
  • Military Discharges – Record Form DD-214 for veterans at no cost.

The Register of Deeds’ office is responsible for maintaining and securing the land records of the County. All recorded documents in the Register of Deeds office are public record, and copies are available to view and/or purchase.

The Register of Deeds has the power to take acknowledgments, administer oaths, and certify the same by his or her signature. The Register of Deeds must keep a book in which every instrument filed for record in his or her office is entered and an official seal. The Register of Deeds may appoint one or more deputies for whose acts the register will be responsible. The deputy may not be the County Treasurer, Sheriff, Clerk or Surveyor. If a Register of Deeds is not elected pursuant to Section 32-518, the County Clerk shall act as Ex-Officio Register of Deeds.
